Ailsa Craig is a famous landmark dominating the Ayrshire Coast roughly 10 miles from Girvan. Ailsa Craig was formed millions of years ago, and is the "volcanic plug" from a live volcano. Erosion over the years has weathered away the sides leaving the hardened volcanic granite core. Once quarried for it's granite, used to produce curling stones, Ailsa Craig or "Paddy's Milestone" as it is known locally, is now a protected bird sanctuary.
Quote.....If you CAN'T see Ailsa Craig from Girvan...it's raining.
If you CAN see Ailsa Craig from Girvan...it's going to rain.
