Girvan is a small town in South West Scotland, situated in the south of the county of Ayrshire at the mouth of the river that bears the same name. With a population of approx. 7,000 people, Girvan was once a thriving fishing port. The fishing industry however, is now in decline, due to lower E.U. fishing quotas and fish stocks. Industry in Girvan comprises of distilling, chocolate manufacture, light engineering and electronics. Girvan is also still popular as a tourist spot, and is idealy suited for exploring the South of Scotland.
